This is a Yukimi lantern in the Japanese Garden at the Chicago Botanic Garden. It is designed to collect falling snow on the roof which creates beautiful patterns.

Always wondered what those lanterns were for. I thought they were for religious purposes not decorative works of art. Nicely done.
