At the Botanic Gardens the Japanese Garden is home to 172 Pine trees. Each Spring the new growth has to be hand plucked, which is called candling, to maintain the beautiful curves that shape the trees. In 2008 it took the staff 570 hours to candle these trees.

Nice take on the theme. I like the blue/water in the background. Is that ice?
ReplyDeleteAren't those the neatest trees? I love your picture against the snowy background! Can you imagine all the hours it takes to care for one of those - glad it isn't in my yard - LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, curvy indeed! Both this and the log wall are really well composed.
ReplyDeleteThe way you've composed this shot makes it look like the tree is curving upward to reach the warm sun light. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. Never heard of candling.
ReplyDeleteI guess the tree candlers (?) are a bit stuck on their jobs, you think?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot. Just lovely.
A unique and clever interpretation of the theme and wonderful photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree and perfect interpretation of the theme. The amount of man hours that goes into caring for those trees is incredible!
