131 Groceries

Moving away from Ten Thousand Villages for a couple of days and on to something else. These were the headlines in the Chicago Sun Times this past Sunday, March 15th. Another reminder of the sad state of affairs in the world.

  2. You did well on getting the newspaper in focus so we can view it. Good job. My DH does the shopping (hold over from when his late wife was so ill for so long), so I don't have to face the cost of groceries. I'm the one who hollers a lot when he pays outrageous prices for steak even when it is not the choice cuts! lol But, I stop and think: It is his money. He earned it. Guess he can spend it on steaks if that is what he wants to spend it on.

  3. I'm with the ladies on the photo and think like you, thought is needed. I think cost has become too important, we have lost so many fields to overseas, soon all will be held at ransom by this trend. I now buy local even if it cost more. We need to keep our farmers able to farm.

  4. Really nice picture. I buy local when I can also - especially fresh produce in season. It may cost a teeny bit more but is fresh and so worth it. We are big fish eaters (having grown up on the ocean) and catch a lot of our own too. But have you noticed how package sizes and thus amount of food in them are getting 20-25% smaller. Check out the new "half gallon" size ice cream - only 1.75 qts!

  5. Really nice job on the picture and great image for the theme, although I hate hearing more stories about this!

  6. Ron, when did you come to the US? That sounds just like here. I, too, shop locally at the farmer's market when possible, and I'm doing my own veggie garden this year. Tomatoes, anyone?

The photo says it all. Well done!

  7. I try and buy local if I can. We have a lot of farm stands here on LI, NY. Great shot.

  8. The current economic situation is making me shop more like my mom did. She clung to her depression-era ways even though there was no longer a financial reason to do so. I think we can all learn from that generation...
