Flowers and butterflies are my absolute favorite subjects to photograph (with the exception of our grandaughter!!). That being said, I have wanted a macro lens for a very long time. The opposition in my house finally gave in and agreed with me!! While at the Chicago Botanic Gardens on Saturday I tried out my new 105mm VR macro lens for the first time. I was extremely disappointed with all my photographs except this one. (How silly of me to think I could just put it on my camera and have successes!!)If you look in the center of this gorgeous orchid you will realize why I picked this flower for this theme.
This is hand held. I know I have to start using a tripod even though I don't want to!!
No postprocessing was done. What you see is what you get with this one!!

Great choice for your first macro photo post! And "polka dots" is the perfect theme fit. I'm looking forward to many more macro shots from you!
ReplyDeleteA knockout Mary Lou, 'polka dots' is indeed perfect. Have fun with your new lens and we'll be waiting.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with your new lens. I have a 105mm too. Is it a VR, vibration reduction lens? It took me a while to get used to mine, but I really do like it a lot. You'll have lots of cool pics soon.
ReplyDeleteNice shot! The leaves look so velvety - and this is a great pick for polka dots!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new lens! Nice photo and great color.
ReplyDeleteI just edited my post and added the following:
ReplyDelete105 mm VR lens
This is hand held. I know I have to start using a tripod even though I don't want to!!
I was just excited that one phot came out that I forgot some info!!
I love this macro shot - so soft and "romantic"! You caught it's essence perfectly! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove that the orchid has polka dots.
ReplyDeleteI have those macro filters that go on my 18-55 lens, but I'd love to have an actual macro lens like yours. (I'm jealous!)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot!
The small version doesn't do it justice but enlarged, it's spectacular! Love the interpretation of Polka Dots!
ReplyDeleteVery nice closeup!
ReplyDeleteGreat hand held shot. That's a tough one. It came out great, look at the detail you can see in the white flower, and of course the polka dots.
ReplyDeleteStunning photo - who would think to look for polka dots here?
ReplyDeleteYou'll get used to your new lens in no time. I wonder if your initial disappointment resulted in part from a tricky lighting situation? In any case, this shot turned out very nice. Sweet tiny polka dots too...
